Knotty KnottersQuiltz 4 Kidz is an outreach program begun in 2008 to supply a warm welcome to refugee children arriving to our Ottawa schools.

These blankets are made by first cutting a fringe around all sides of two layers of fleece and then knotting the layers to one another. A group of volunteers meet on Thursday mornings 10am to noon from September to May. Much chatting, a cup of tea and a sweet accompany our time together.

Initially, approximately 100 blankets were completed each year. As the years progressed more opportunities arose to comfort others. We supplied blankets to Dunrobin children affected by tornados, Matthew House for adult refugees, a women's shelter, and local children going through rough times. We also made extra blankets for the veterans who were coming off the streets into the new apartment complex called Veterans House in Ottawa. Blankets have also been donated to The Haven in Barrhaven (a multi-faith housing project) and more recently to Ukrainian refugees arriving in Ottawa.  The Quiltz 4 Kidz group has completed and provided over 2,000 blankets to date!

New volunteers are always welcome. Other ways to support this program are by making cash donations, purchasing one of the blankets, or sponsoring the making of a blanket as a special gift to give at Christmas to the person who has everything and would appreciate the gift given in their name.
