Wanting to Start Again

Garage SaleSunday October 19th

Mark your calendars for a powerful climate-themed performance coming to Ottawa in October!

CAFES is excited to bring to you Wanting to Start Again, a unique musical experience that addresses climate change concerns in a poignant and powerful violin-piano performance.

DoSi, a duo of exceptional musicians, pianist Tong Wang and violinist Maitreyi Muralidharan, will deliver this deeply moving program born out of the artists’ experience with the devastation of the Banff and Halifax wildfires, the climate crisis, immigrant stories, and discovering identity. This interactive concert featuring works by Fu-Tong Wong, Nick Bentz, Fazil Say, Joe Hisaishi/Wesley Chu and Kevin Lau, provides a space for audiences to reflect, sit with difficult emotions, and ask: how do we start again when we feel at our lowest?

Manotick United Church is pleased to host this event for CAFES Ottawa.

Brooks & Bowskill Concert

MVCA DonationSunday September 28th

Join us at Manotick United Church to hear Canadian duo Brooks and Bowskill as they entertain us with this Sunday evening concert. Doors open at 7:00pm, performance starts at 7:30pm.

Brooks & Bowskill is the collaboration of Canadian wife-and-husband musicians Brittany Brooks and Jimmy Bowskill. Their genre-bending music journeys between folk, country-rock, rock and roll, drenched in 1960’s/70’s nostalgia and stamped with their own unique sound.

Jimmy Bowskill, a multi-talented instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and recording engineer has established himself as one of the most profound musicians and music producers in the industry. He is a member of Canadian country-rock band Blue Rodeo, as their multi-instrumentalist and previously spent 7 years as lead guitarist of Canadian rock band The Sheepdogs.

Brittany Brooks is a prolific songwriter, singer and instrumentalist, crafting lyrically evocative songs steeped in wisdom beyond her years. Her unique and poignant vocal style is reminiscent of female folk-rock pioneers from the ‘60s like Sandy Denny, Joni Mitchell and country artists like Emmylou Harris and Sylvia Tyson. In addition to releasing multiple solo albums, Brooks has provided background vocals on records and in live performances for numerous bands including Blue Rodeo.

They have quickly become known for their soaring vocal harmonies, expert musicianship and electric live performances with their band The Hometown Beauts.

Proceeds from this concert will be donated to Watson's Mill to support their efforts to purchase and maintain Dickinson House and the Carriage Shed. Please support this worthy cause and enjoy some great music at the same time.

Light refreshments and snacks will be available at the intermission - this is a non-licensed family friendly event.

Tickets may be purchased online in advance, in person at Manotick Office Pro or from the church office, or at the door (cash or card).
